Following the first quarter's market plunge from all-time highs, the U.S. stock market rebounded in the second quarter on the hopes of a return to normalcy from an economic shutdown caused by the COVID-19 virus. After falling more than 34% peak to trough in the first quarter, the S&P 500 Index remarkably rebounded 20.5% in the second quarter, and was down just 3.1% for the year at the end of June.
